Waiting on Wednesday #10: Uninvited by Sophie Jordan

I thought it would be cool to do a Waiting on Wednesday since I've been finding a lot of to-be-published books lately! Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine. It's a weekly meme where you talk about a book you can't wait to have released.

Uninvited by Sophie Jordan

  Synopsis:

"You can’t change your DNA…even when it says you’re a murderer.

When Davy tests positive for Homicidal Tendency Syndrome, aka “the kill gene,” she loses everything. Once the perfect high school senior, she is uninvited from her prep school and abandoned by her friends and boyfriend. Even her parents are now afraid of her—although she’s never hurt a fly. Davy doesn’t feel any differently, but genes don’t lie. One day she will kill someone.

Without any say in the matter, Davy is thrown into a special class for HTS carriers. She has no doubt the predictions are right about them, especially Sean, who already bears the “H” tattoo as proof of his violence. Yet when the world turns on the carriers, Sean is the only one she can trust. Maybe he’s not as dangerous as he seems. Or maybe Davy is just as deadly."

Expected Release:
March 2014

I accidentally found this book and I'm super excited! A unique synopsis that I've never seen before and a cover that is awesome!!

Waiting on Wednesday #9: Smash Into You by Shelly Crane

I thought it would be cool to do a Waiting on Wednesday since I've been finding a lot of to-be-published books lately! Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine. It's a weekly meme where you talk about a book you can't wait to have released.

Smash Into You by Shelly Crane

                                      Synopsis:
Jude has spent the whole twenty one years of his life running. From what, he wasn't quite sure. His mother tried to keep him safe; a low profile, a constant move on the horizon, a week's pay always stashed away. She tried to instill in him that he was special somehow, though would never elaborate. He never felt different. He was so completely normal and vanilla that he wondered if it had all been in her head. But then she was murdered and all he saw was a running silhouette of a man as his mother said three final words to him. Three words that changed his whole being.
          Never stop running…
Now he's semi-settled into a big town. The college is huge and easy to blend into. It's been three months since he had to move because 'Biloxi', as he calls the man who killed his mother, found him once more.
Then Marley, an eighteen year old girl who is as infuriating as she is blissfully ignorant of her gorgeousness, smashes into his car with hers. Then smashes into his life as he realizes that whatever it is he has that Biloxi wants, she has it, too. And now, they're after them both.

Teaser/Excerpt

And now, as I stared out into the dark rain to see a POS car sideways in the road, I knew the world hated me, had to, because someone had just smashed her car into my truck.
I got out and braced myself. It wasn't easy to pay cash for new cars every time I needed to skip town. It was hard living when you couldn't be who you really were. Finding people to pay you under the table was almost impossible these days.
I groaned and glared at the beauty standing at the end of my truck. "Look at that!"
"I'm so sorry," she began. I could tell she really was, but I was beyond pissed. "I'll call my insurance company right now."
That stopped me. "No!" I shouted and she jolted at the verbal assault. "No insurance."
"Well," she pondered, "what do you mean? I have good insurance."
         "But I don't."
She turned her head a bit in thought and then her mouth fell open as she realized what I was saying. "You don’t have any insurance, do you?"
"No," I answered. "Look. Whatever, we'll just call this even-steven, because you did hit me."
"Even-steven my butt!" she yelled and scurried to jump in front of me, blocking my way.
"And what a cute butt it is."
Even through the noise of water hitting metal, I heard her intake of breath. The rain pelted us in the dark. I hoped no one came around the corner. It would be hard for them to see us here in the middle of the road. She might get hurt. Then I wondered why I cared.
"Look, buddy," she replied and crossed her arms. It drew my eyes to her shirt. My eyes bulged 'cause that shirt…well, it was see-through now. She caught on and jerked her crossed arms higher. "How dare you! You're on a roll in the jerkface department, you know that!"
"My specialty," I said and saluted as I climbed in my truck. "Get your pretty butt in your car and let's pretend this never happened, shall we?"
Because if cops and insurance were brought into this, I'd be on the run sooner than I thought.
         She huffed. "Excuse me-"
"Darling. Car. Now." She glared. "Like right now."
She threw her hands up in the air and yelled, "I knew chivalry was dead!" before climbing in her car and driving away. She didn't know it, but I was being as chivalrous as they come. I made sure she got out of the rain and back into her car, even though she didn't like the way I did it, and I got her as far away from me as I could.
In my book, I deserved a freaking medal for being so chivalrous. Because people that stuck with me didn't live long.
         Just ask my mom.
Oh, wait, you can't. She died long, long years ago saving my life. I refused to bring anyone onto this sinking ship with me. If it finally did go down, I was going down alone. And now, as I stared out into the dark rain to see a POS car sideways in the road, I knew the world hated me, had to, because someone had just smashed her car into my truck.

Musing Monday #16: Goals for the Future (May 20th)

Musing Monday #16

Musing Monday is a weekly conversation thing hosted by Should Be Reading where you talk about one of three prompts. I also decided that I would do a cool vlog thing!! It was really fun to film (I usually prefer scripts though).
Enjoy!

"Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…
• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren't) enjoying it."

Goals for the Future (May 20th)

Today I wanted to talk about some books that  can't wait to read this summer! If you don't know, summer for me is CRAZY filled with tons of books. I have more time so I read way more than I do during the school year. I have some books that I really want to read this summer that I wanted to share with you. This isn't a WOW because these books have already come out.

(Okay, really it's only one series but it's GIANT. Like so giant all caps doesn't quantify)

url.png

Yes, I am attempting to read the epic fantasy series A Song of  Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. (A general misconception that the series is called Game of Thrones.)

What are you excited to read this summer?

Down N' Derby Blog Tour Stop: Review and Interview

Down N' Derby by Lila Felix Blog: Review & Interview - May 16th

As you all know I love Lila Felix books. I always jump on the opportunity to be on her blog tours and this is no exception! It's so great talking to Lila and Mandy from iReadIndie.

Review:

"Maddox is running.
By accident, he discovered long ago that he was adopted as a baby and his need to find his biological father has consumed him ever since. Now, on a road trip, determined to find his father and his sanity, and armed with locations and his cousin, Nixon, to help him, maybe he can find the answers he’s been searching for. With nothing but a suitcase and a wad of cash to get him there, lead after lead takes him further from home.
But he’ll find much more than he intended.
He finds Storey, a pint sized pin-up model who has learned painful lessons about guys. Her wounds run deep, but so do his. She knows what she wants, but will she recognize it when it’s right in front of her?
Maddox can’t touch anyone without feeling like his skin is crawling, but just maybe his instinct to protect this amazing girl will supersede his own hang-ups.
If he can brush her skin and start to feel alive inside...everything will change."

Thoughts:

This is by far my favorite Love & Skate series novel......

It really is an honor reviewing and being a part of Lila Felix's tours. Being an author in general is not the easiest thing. Coming up with characters, plots, and just in general having great writing. The authors that have mediocre books are nice to talk to, but it's not until you encounter a book or series that is truly great that oozes with brilliance, and makes you feel for the characters do you really understand the definition of "a talent". Lila Felix is a brilliant author that never surprises but always astounds. Gaining respect among the indie reading community for her endearing stories of love and fining yourself.  Down N' Derby is a novel that leaks passion through the electronic pages, sucks you into a whirlwind of emotions, and is spiced with beautiful writing.

Down N' Derby, the third installment of the Love & Skate series is another brilliant, but different story. Honestly, with Love & Skate and How it Rolls I found myself easily predicting the plot line of the book. With Down N' Derby having a new adventure with Maddox, Nixon, & Storey. The book was so fun to read because I felt like I was reading a whole other series. I had no idea where the story would turn next. With the new adventures, the Lila Felix writing romance charm still was prevalent in the novel. This combination is what really made this a great read!

Storey is by far my favorite Love & Skate character. She's feisty but knows when to be nice and has the capacity to also be more serious. It was great to read her in comparison to all the other models in the beginning as well. She just seems in general a really awesome person to know in real life! Maddox was a really sweet guy to read. The way his attitude towards finding his father shifted was really great to read as his and Storey's relationship developed. Nixon was my second favorite to read (besides Storey). To me, he seems more....my type (* embarrassed blush*). The three Black brothers seem to be more hunky and just seem different. Nixon seems less like that and I'm just excited to read him OKAY. I just really liked reading him... -_-

Overall, a really great third book that left me wanting more! Some scenes were confusing and a bit too vague, so I couldn't really tell what was going on. Other than that I'm very happy with this installment and can't wait to review Caught in a Jam.
5 out of 5 stars
-M

P.S. I really love Hurricane by Ms Mr for this book... and the lady singer has derby hair!!

Interview:

And now...the part you've all been waiting for...Lila Felix!!

Me:Thank you so much for doing this interview for Wide Awake blog tour and The Alternative Kryptonite!!
Lila: Very excited, thanks for having me!

Me: What inspired you to write the Love & Skate series?
Lila: I love roller derby, not like it, love it.  And I wanted to write a series about people who get judged by their outside appearance.

Me: When did you decide to make Love & Skate into a series or was it pre-planned?
Lila: It was not preplanned but I knew as soon as Falcon had a spot in the plot of Nellie and Owen that he had to have his own book.

Me: What makes the Love & Skate series stand out from all the others, besides that it’s a series?
Lila: I think there’s lessons to be learned from each family member.

Me: What or who inspired you to create the Black family and when did you decide to do a novel that mostly correlates to each Black son?
Lila: I just wanted to create a family that loved each other and who actually made an effort to be good to each other.

Me: How did you come up with the Derby theme? Are you a fan of Derby racing or did you have to do a lot of research?
Lila: I’m a big fan.  There wasn’t a lot of research to do.

MeWhat is your favorite part about writing the Love & Skate novels? What was the hardest part?
Lila: My fave part is writing the male POV.  I just love it. The hardest part is writing the grief and the pain.  Those people are like my kids.

MeHow did you decide to do multiple POVs? Why do you think you chose that?
Lila: I love writing the male POV!! I don’t know why, I just do.

Me: Who do you think is your favorite character? Or set of characters?
Lila: Oh….always, always Falcon.

Me: What one song do you think most describes the Love & Skate series as a whole?
Lila: Howlin’ For You by The Black Keys

Me: Can you give us any other hints as to the future of the Love & Skate series?
Lila: I am writing Caught In A Jam right now, along with AnguiSH and Seeking Havok.  Rex’s book will come after that.  I think I’ve titled it False Start, which is a derby term, but I’m not sure!!

Lila: Thank you Maggie for your continued support and love!!!
Me: No problem, you're the best!
